Project Title: People are Music: Defining Identity through the Construct of Music.

Abstract: What type of melody and what function of lyrics address and illuminate the struggle between acceptance and identity?  How are lyrics effective in depicting the instances they wish to recreate?  To write an effective song about a specific situation or topic, does the songwriter have to have experienced that situation?  What dictates the “psychological addiction” humans have to music, and how does music present itself as a form of communication that transcends linguistic barriers?
